How to Join the Mars Hill Family
“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” –Romans 12:4–5

The church of Mars Hill is a family, adopted by God (Gal. 4:6-7; Eph. 1:5:). From him we receive the privilege to worship Jesus together, serve in his kingdom, and be his children. We care for each other, pray for each other, and serve together as lights to the world.
Guests are always welcome in our “house”. After a season of relationship, however, it is hoped that guests will become part of the family. For those interested in transitioning to being a member, the membership process is your opportunity to learn more about us, and our opportunity to get to know you.
The leadership of Mars Hill Church strives to love and care for its members well (Eph. 4:11-12; Gal. 6:10). In turn, we rely on our members to accomplish our collective work as the church (Eph. 2:10). As an organization, we operate with minimal staff, budget, and programming because we trust the Holy Spirit to move through the transformed hearts of our members, mobilizing the collective body of Christ in humble ways to love the city, love our family, and glorify God on his terms.
The call is demanding (Mark 8:34-35). The opposition is great (1 Peter 5:8). But Jesus goes with us (Matt. 28:20). If you’d like to become a member, here’s how:
1. Join “The City“ (Mars Hill’s online community): Sign up at your home campus’s designated City kiosk. You’ll receive an email invitation with login instructions (volunteers are available at each campus to assist the less technologically savvy through this process).
2. Start the process: Most of the membership process takes place on The City. To get things started, login and look for the “Start the Member Process” link. This will flag your profile as a prospective member, and provide further information.
3. Participate in community: All members of Mars Hill are expected to participate in some form of community, such as a community group, a serving community, or a more informal Mars Hill community. To learn how to join a group, stop by the information desk at your campus or visit the Community Groups page.
4. Learn what we believe: Prospective members are required to take the Doctrine class and answer a few basic comprehension questions for each session. You may complete this part of the process in The City, in a community group, or at a special session organized by your campus.
5. Affirm what we believe: After completing the Doctrine class, you’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire about your relationship with Jesus (based on the description of a disciple’s life. At this time you’ll also be asked to make an annual giving pledge, identify the particular Mars Hill community you’re involved in, and sign the member covenant (all of this takes place online via The City).
6. Meet with a church leader: Once you have submitted your forms, either your community group leader, your service lead, or another leader from your campus will contact you and arrange a time to meet in order to ask follow-up questions and answer any questions you might have.
7. Welcome to the family: After a satisfactory interview process, the leader who met with you will officially affirm (via The City) your status as a member of Mars Hill Church and active participant in the great work God is accomplishing in our midst, in our lifetime, in our city, and in our world (Acts 17:26 cf. Eph. 2:10).
