Frisbees and friends, big toys and small talk…
“And I commend joy, for man has no good thing under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 8:15

Mars Hill Wednesdays during the summer have been a traditional time for hanging out, getting time with members and guests, breaking bread – and burgers – together and forging new, mission-minded relationships under the sun in a city where it rarely shines. This summer is no exception.
I met with Deacon Phil Hart, who is overseeing logistics for our monthly summer barbecues starting July 15th at Matthews Beach. He’s sizing up how to get barbecues down to the beach, where to set up the volleyball net, how many frisbees to bring, and what other games and activities can help grease the wheels for conversation and participation as we have a blast. One hope was sizing up some kids toys – buckets, shovels, etc. to play in the sand. However, kids might be overwhelmed by the big toys and play area, or simply splashing in the water itself.
The first month will have no formal agenda, no teaching, and will simply feature fun with prayer, meal, and relationships so it’s a great, laid back opportunity to invite friends who don’t normally join us for Sunday services and other activities. As for the pastor and his wife? I think we’ll bring our bibles and our super-soakers. Can’t wait to see you there.
