Called out this Sunday…
In the recent science fiction film “Knowing“, the protagonist is forced to face a reality in which the world is not random, the world is coming to an end, and that some people have been “called out”. I was shocked to realize how resonant the themes were with a biblical portrait of God’s calling (for more on this surprising film, check out the multi-part review at Cinemagogue).
Throughout the scripture of 1 & 2 Peter, the disciple illustrates that God calls his people, that they are His possession, that He directs them to follow Jesus, to bless others, to suffer and rely on His strength, to strive for excellence, and make our calling sure. This theme of being “called” appears seven significant times in Peter’s letters, and this Sunday at the Lake City Campus we’ll explore the connections they make across scripture and in application to our own lives.
With Mars Hill going global, and our ministry crossing time zones, there are BIG changes even for our own congregation in northeast Seattle. Some familiar faces are departing, some big challenges are before us, our community groups are also undergoing a MAJOR shake-up, and the need for our community to see our role as called out image-bearers has never been more important. I’m thrilled to preach, on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Jesus is going to do, and excited to see you there. It’s going to be a GREAT time of song, scripture, prayer and dedication to our Lord’s service.
Join us for services at 9am, 11.15am, or 5pm.
