White Blankets, Women, Daisies and Decorating

What do all these things have in common? They all mark the same week at Mars Hill Church | Lake City.

The “arctic blast” comprised of about 2 measly inches of snow, slowed attendance Sunday everywhere including Lake City. To top things off, a sound processor blew out in the middle of service, our drummer got delayed driving from Duvall, and the family parking lot got closed down due to ice. Fortunately, from here things start looking up…

ladies nightWednesday night, our ladies will close the year with their final gathering for fun, fellowship and instruction on godly romance and fidelity with teaching by Kathryn Harleman. Of all the monthly Praxis events, Ladies Night has been the best attended most elaborate, as our leadership team pulls out all the stops so it should be a night to remember that ends with a bang and not a whimper. fallFriday evening, “Pushing Daisies” fans can see actor Lee Pace in this month’s film and theology Cinemagogue event. The film is The Fall and a review of the film can be found here; be sure to check out the trailer. This well reviewed film ends the year with a look at storytelling and escapism and its resonance with the human heart. Join us for film followed by an exploration of the narrative themes.

family christmasSaturday afternoon, before the single guys head out with their buddies and after parents rouse their little ones from a post-lunch nap, it’s time to enjoy the warmth of Christmas cheer with Lake City’s Family Christmas Special. This was a campus favorite last year for singles, married couples, and parents. See you there!

All of this is naturally building toward our Candlelight Christmas Eve on December 24th, so decide where you’re going to join us this week and pick from one of two services the night before Christmas, 6pm or 7.30pm. Whether our ladies are gathering, we’re watching a film, or decorating cookies next to a warm fireplace, Jesus’ birth is foremost in our minds and these trimmings - including a white Christmas - are all extra blessings around the centrality of the gospel and what He has done.

A Church, Building…

A church is so much more than a facility, someplace people “go”. A church is the people, a family brought together by our beloved Creator, a body blended together with Jesus as our “head” and chief shepherd. Still, a facility provides a place of assembly, a rally-point, the equipping center from which the local mission [...]
