Eat, Drink, and be Merry at Mars Hill
The economy is circling the drain, we’re tired of debates and worried about hanging chads, the leaves are falling and we’re about to lose an hour. I checked out the definition of “up” and things are not looking. So… it’s time to party.
Isaiah 25:6-9 On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine- the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord , we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
Feasting isn’t just a distraction, it’s a spiritual discipline, and a foretaste of the kingdom to come. On Wednesday October 22, we’re going to praise Jesus with Würstel and Brezel, keeping the seasonal celebration of Oktoberfest. Members are brewing up themed food and drink for the occasion.
There is a time for preaching and a time for partying, and for the Christian both are God-glorifying acts of worship. As we always do things frugally at MHC – LC, we would LOVE to have this upcoming event be a coordinated dinner wherein people stretch themselves and bring something that fits the spirit of the event.
Here is a link to Oktoberfest on Wikipedia for the history and there is a wholePARAGRAPH on the food with links to the dishes. Check out the list below – wikipedia has links to many of the food items listed and some of them are FASCINATING. The pastor’s wife is making potato pancakes…
