I Smell a Rat This Friday…
What does a rodent with aspirations of being a master chef have to do with the gospel? That is one of the ongoing challenges presented by Cinemagogue, a ministry of Pastor James Harleman and Mars Hill Church. Many times our entertainment and our faith never converge, when the truth is that our worldview is often shaped by the heartstrings pulled by our favorite stories.
Remy is a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant’s new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy’s family’s skepticism and the rat-hating world of humans. Friday September 12 at 7pm, we will view RATATOUILLE (G) and deal with the philosophical ramifications this family-style story has on our dreams and expectations.
Cinema is a modern day pulpit; people flock to their local multiplexes, group together, and find themselves moved by a worldview revealed in story form, allowing themselves to be emotionally led by directors and screenwriters who influence how we feel, think, and even act. Cinemagogue (also known as film and theology) features monthly film viewings at the MHC | Lake City Campus, followed by an expository exploration of narrative themes and spiritual parallels.
