Fall planning rolls out for Lake City…

As we brace ourselves for three services and a Song of Songs sermon series that will impact our community at the end of September, we realize that church doesn’t end on Sunday afternoon and there is much more to living a Christian life than putting in a few hours of worship time. Our secondary emphasis is always Community Groups, living life together and gathering in homes as we see in the life of the early church. However, each season we also supplement teaching and training with strategic midweek gathering. Sometimes this has taken the shape of 10-week classes, or teaching that targets demographics and life stages. However, with two important gatherings in the week already (Sunday and Community Group) is a third night really feasible for most folks, particularly when we want to be outward focused, missional light to our community?

This fall, we’re keeping things MUCH simpler, creating a rhythm that allows different communities and life stages in our church to select monthly supplements and grow together, affording opportunities for those who aren’t connected as well as strengthening life-stages and demographics with spiritual disciplines and equipping. Every Wednesday will feature something for you or members of your family, so wrap your brain around the basic framework and discuss where you fit in this fall.

Our monthly rhythm is coming under the ideological heading of PRAXIS…

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves… - James 1:22

PRAXIS (prak’sis) noun
1. practice, as distinguished from theory
2. established practice; custom

The Monthly Wednesday night framework: MEN, SINGLES, WOMEN, & EVERBODY…

First Wednesday of each month, we will rally the men of the congregation to come together for timely teaching, reinforcing the basics and targeting specific issues prevalent in our church so we set the tone for each month. Second Wednesday will focus on our singles, which make up at least a third of our congregation, teaching on issues relevant to their season of life. Third Wednesday the ladies – single, married, mothers, and grandmothers – will gather for fellowship, teaching and prayer. Fourth Wednesday will be for family – church family, that means everybody – and be our time to party for the glory of God.

- Starting Wednesday October 1 is Real Men, our monthly event for men of all ages and life seasons. Over the fall we will discuss our War, our Wounds, and our Wedding Supper as it relates to friendship, every Christian’s mission, the continual pursuit of our spouse, and our future in Christ.

- Starting Wednesday October 8 is Single | Serving, our new ministry for singles with teaching on the godly lives singles are called to including time, treasure, talents, purity, attentions, affections, and more. A network will be created for those who attend to create other avenues of service and activity throughout the month.

- Starting Wednesday October 15 is Ladies Night, a monthly gathering for the women of Mars Hill. While dads watch the kids, moms can join the single and married women for fellowship, fun, teaching and discussion coordinated by the great women leaders in our church.

- Starting Wednesday, October 22, our first fall, all-church event will be Oktoberfest, a time to come together and eat and drink for the glory of God. Sporting the German theme with meat, drink, and desserts, there will be activity for the kids, games and fellowship for everybody else, with a pause to recognize the founder of our feast and understand the theology of partying. November will feature a Thanksgiving service and December conveniently falls on Christmas Eve.

What about that occasional fifth week, you ask? Those weeks the facility will go dark and we’ll encourage people to use that night to engage their community, rally around an act of service… essentially get creative. All monthly events will kick off at 6.30pm to provide space to arrive, to hang out and meet each other, with teaching kicking off at 7pm sharp. Check our calendar for details and set yours for the fall to join us as we grow together in community for Jesus’ fame.

PRAXIS now has a permanent place in our navigation to the right, check out the LINK for more on each area of the ministry.

Real Men Love Weddings

If you were a dude like me, you used to sleep through weddings. If you have a wife, or a date, you roll your eyes at their tears. Flowers, flowery speeches, and flustered family abounds. Snore. Reception. Repeat.
Revelation 19 tells us “Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
 the Almighty reigns.
 Let us rejoice and exult
