Dwelling & Doing episode 1: Abiding in Christ
How do YOU experience Jesus?
When you get to the 15th chapter in the book of John, Jesus has been enjoying the Last Supper with his Disciples, revealing that He is the way, the truth, and the life – the only path to reconciliation with God, our Creator. Soberly, Jesus has also predicted His imminent betrayal and death. He promises that the Holy Spirit will come, who indwells and empowers those who believe. As the 15th chapter begins, the disciples are filled with mixed emotions, and Jesus begins to instruct them in what it means to remain connected and commissioned in the service of God. He uses the illustration of the vine and its branches.
Too often even Christians speak of Jesus as though he did something in the past and is preparing a place for our future, overlooking the imminent, intimate connection He promised to his twelve disciples at the Last Supper – a relationship which fruitful Christians dwell in even today. Over two weeks, we explored how dwelling in God and doing what He designed us to do are inseparable, and how our relationship with Jesus intertwines and defines our active expression. This is vital to Christians in general, and timely for our congregation; we launched in October ‘07, developed community as disciples of Jesus, and now stand prepared to love and serve where God has appointed us
