Twelve Disciples at Wedgwood…
The All-Members’ Meeting, followed by a truly incredible day of fasting and prayer, has come and gone. It was truly a joy for this pastor and many other leaders and members of Mars Hill Church as we worshiped, celebrated, discussed financial diagrams, and raised enough money to get some Air Conditioning in our Wedgwood auditorium this summer. Something we also hit that night on a more spiritual note was the virally circulating teaching on the “Discipled Life”, basic in concept but almost endless in unpacking as we look at our identity in Christ and how that spirals out into our expressions of worshipping God, loving fellow Christians, and loving those who don’t live for Jesus. It complements our mission statement as a church, but more importantly follows in the wake of the great commission given by Jesus.
At the Wedgwood Campus, we’re taking the next dozen weeks to teach our men early in the morning about what it means to live discipled lives.
Mars Hill pastors including myself will be at the campus every Thursday morning at 6.30, sharing another facet of what this means and then spinning the guys out into prayer groups to seek the Holy Spirit in how this applies to their prayer life, their work life, their sex life, their friendships, their kids, and more. Twelve weeks on being disciples of Jesus. With a core of 15 – 20 men already attending weekly for prayer, it was the perfect place to insert this teaching and get some known and dedicated dudes working this out not simply Thursday morning but in their lives and relationships throughout the church and the city. ALL men are welcome, from other campuses or down the street, and whether they go to Mars Hill Church or not. This stuff is applicable to EVERYbody.
May is a big month for the men at Mars Hill Church and particularly Wedgwood. The weekend getaway “Men’s Advance” is May 16 – 18, and at Wedgwood we’re ending the month with a Men’s Teaching Night at the campus (details forthcoming). With previous months focused on launching Women’s Prayer and our first Women’s teaching on Inductive Bible Study, we didn’t want the dudes to feel neglected. Consider this overkill – the good kind. We hope to see many men this Thursday at sunrise.
