Join Wedgwood for Mars Hill’s official ANTI-Superbowl Party
Not into sports? Tired of bad half-time shows, overblown commercials, and teams you don’t care about? On Sunday, February 3, the Wedgwood Campus will host a pre-5pm service show featuring BBQ, Guitar Hero, and a couple movies on the big screen (attendees will vote from a selection of movies to watch). The only thing that will be suspiciously absent is that other little event happening on Sunday involving a pigskin, funny helmets, and sweaty men.
Why does Mars Hill hate sports, you ask? Okay, we really don’t. Many of us LOVE sports (In fact, we have a sports ministry). I’m not sure anybody loves American Gladiators, but that’s hardly a sport. Sunday, however, we figure our football lovers will show up at our local 10.30am morning service so they can head home to host their tailgate parties and watch the game. To make matters even more complex, a good number of our ladies will be away at a Women’s Retreat and won’t be back until evening. What becomes, then, of our 5pm service… and those who don’t buy the Superbowl hype?
We thought it might be a good idea to provide some fun and fellowship incentive for all the 5pm folks to make a day of it and even get some extra friends to join us for a great alternative. For all the guys who got stuffed in their lockers by the football players, and the ladies who weren’t able to go on the weekend retreat, we wanted to host something special for you and any friends who want to go along for the ride. All are welcome.
Barbecue will “kickoff” at 2pm. Use the wufu link to let us know you’re coming and vote for the movie you want to see! Film options range from “300” to “The Simpsons Movie”. Guitar Hero playoffs will be happening downstairs and a movie for kids (superbowl widows are welcome). At 5pm, we’ll have our regular service and it will all be over about 6.45pm. When those Superbowl folks realize what they missed, boy will they be jealous. Actually, Paula Abdul’s opening may send them screaming our direction.
So… for all the anti-jocks, the lovers of Mars Hill INdoor ministries, or those who just want to join the REAL party (and DVR the game to watch at home AFTER the 5pm service), we’ll see you there. Lake City, Wedgwood and Sand Point neighbors not down with the pigskin? Drop by and say hello. Burgers and dogs are on us.

I like American Gladiators. The new one is definitely not as good as the old one but, hey, you can’t go wrong with Hulk Hogan right?….right?
