Wedgwood Receives a Sign from God?

The “official” launch of the MHC | Wedgwood Campus on November 11 contained a few surprises, and yielded the greatest numbers yet for the campus with more than 350 people split between the morning and evening services. Not only did the facility gain some last minute, urgently needed lighting upgrades, as well as audio enhancements to improve the quality of music and spoken word, a sign also appeared as people arrived for service…

Technically, Messenger Signs delivered the black and brushed steel display, replacing the temporary banner which will now go to our developing downtown campus. The familiar decorative motif made things feel a little bit more “official”. It was the crowning touch, however, of a God-given blessing that began months ago and culminated in a fantastic day, with new folks coming in to find out what Mars Hill Church is all about.

I had the pleasure to drop in on the Wedgwood Community Council during the week and let them know Mars Hill is now a part of their community. They were having a guest speaker talk about emergency preparedness, which sounds like a great idea for members of our church community to know about and be a blessing to others when a time of crisis comes. Since serving and loving others is a major feature of our mission, I’ll be discussing it with our Community Group leaders at a meeting in the new year.

Friday was our first official event beyond Sunday. This Film and Theology event marked the debut of “Cinemagogue” at the Wedgwood Campus as we watched “Transformers“, discussed the recurring narrative theme that crops up in this type of fantasy story, and examined the spiritual underpinnings of Optimus Prime. Folks turned out from multiple campuses as well as first-timers to Mars Hill, which made for a fantastic mix. Next month will feature Matt Damon in “The Bourne Ultimatum”.

Next week will be a special service with Baby Dedications and perhaps some baptisms, on a great weekend when family and friends are in town and celebrating Thanksgiving. With a new campus, new opportunities, and an expanding mission, we certainly have a lot to be thankful about as individuals and a community. Keep your eye on the blog this week as we debut the many midweek ministries that will be rolling out in December and the New Year.

For me, I belong to a Christian writing association, was actively involved with the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of [...]
