"Mars Hill" is the translated name of an actual hill in Athens, Greece near the Acropolis.

Acts 17:22–23, “Paul then stood up in the meeting at the Areopagus (Mars Hill) and said: ‘Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.’”

When the apostle Paul stood atop Mars Hill, he proclaimed good news to a diverse people steeped in philosophy, culture, and spirituality. Mars Hill Church seeks to continue that legacy in modern-day Seattle.

Your church is called "Mars Hill". How do you reconcile this with Exodus 23:13?

Hmm. Obscure hallowe'en fact no. 2: October 31st is also “Reformation Day”, commemorating the day in 1517 when Christian reformer Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses. But who said (on that same occasion), "He who speaks against the truth of apostolic pardons, let him be anathema and accursed"?

Answer: Martin Luther, Thesis 71.

Anyway, what can we do for Hallowe'en? I said Vespers I of the feast of All Saints, and later went to see the Antrobus Soul Cake play. Works for me!

I really like the way that pastor phil wyman gradually came to the realization that neo-pagans are among the most hated and feared people in American culture, and as such are very much among those with whom Jesus would hang out. What he has found is that many neo pagans, while filled with trepidation toward a christian church that has ostrasized and mischaraterized them in this predominately "christian" culture, actually find the teachings and way of Jesus very compelling and attractive. Who'd have thunk it?

Good catch Laurie! I've edited the post.

As for celebrating something called "Death Day", I always thought that was known as Good Friday.

thanks James.
i'm sending this on to someone who reads too much Jack Chick stuff, so i was reading more careful than normal, was wondering if there was a typo?
"but historical evidence does support this theory"
did you mean to write "does NOT"?

Mickey Doodle....First of all...Use spell check when writing a statement. It is hard to take someone who can't spell seriously.
Secondly: The whole point is that we have our own walk with the Lord and should be listening to the Holy Spirit in our lives as to whether it is okay to participate in such activities and to what extent. Your suggestion of going door to door and handing out tracks would absolutely drive my neighbors AWAY from wanting to know the Lord. We need to be Godly but RELEVANT to our culture.

Would a Jew celibrate Adolph Hittler Day?
Why would we who are called by His Name Celibrate Death Day.
Boaly, we realy should go door to door singing hyms and handing out tracts(reformers..hmmmm)
