And so it begins…

Wedgwood Campus overgrown.Shrubs were pulled, hedges trimmed, weeds were wacked… all in the name of Jesus. Much thanks to those who came out to Wedgwood for our first work party. Their tireless effort helped make the campus’ flora presentable.

Overgrown hedges, creepers and trees created a haphazard, uncared for look that needed to be changed. Many people came out bright and early to help prepare the campus for the upcoming launch; creating a clean, hospitable landscape with which to welcome our members and guests.

There was a lot of work as we tamed a ragged hedge, pulled out some full grown shrubs and weed wacked until we actually broke not one, but two weed wackers!  Pastor Tim Reber and his family took care of the front flower beds, pulling out many mismatched azaleas and random plantings. Some strong volunteers pulled out overgrowth all along the west wall.  People roamed the parking lot spraying Round-Up on the various weeds forcing their way through the asphalt. But I think those there will agree the highlight of the day came when Pastor Paul Petry fired up his old Chevy truck, wrapped a chain around a very large shrub and proceeded to prove our dominion over the plant world by yanking the whole thing clean out of the ground!

We stayed late in the day, but accomplished a lot toward making the campus look like someone cared enough to clean it up and present it as a thing of beauty.  Wedgwood cleaned up

We look forward to some planned, sustainable landscaping in the near future, but it sure is shaping up well so far. See pictures from the whole day here.

Be sure to keep your eyes open as there will be many other opportunities to serve in the upcoming months.  If you don’t like yardwork, we have plenty to do inside as we are revamping the whole kitchen, removing walls, changing lighting, repainting and generally sprucing up for the upcoming launch.  As Paul said in 1 Cor 12:4-6 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.

Let us use our varieties of gifts and service in preparation for seeing the gospel go forth in Wedgwood.
